.Illus. Sam WoodThe Depths of Hunger
A Free Web Enhancement for The Diamond Throne

Set sail aboard the Briny Jack for a memorable adventure in the Great Eastern Sea. Your job: to deliver a metamorphosing iron witch to mojh transformation experts in Fallanor. But the way is not smooth, and the greatest challenge of all could lead you straight into the clutches of the foul master of hungerfire!

The Depths of Hunger by Tom Lommel debuted at Gen Con 2003 as a scenario called “Fate of the Iron Witch” and has been extensively expanded and revised here for use in your own Diamond Throne campaigns. While the plot shows its game convention roots in its linearity, the encounters are not necessarily the sort of straightforward dungeon hack so often featured (and enjoyed) at a con. The themes of ceremony, oathtaking, and moral ambiguity found in Monte Cook’s Arcana Unearthed make the decision to draw your sword a complex choice with definite consequences.

This 23-page adventure is a free web enhancement for The Diamond Throne, a setting book for Monte Cook’s Arcana Unearthed. It not only introduces new monsters and magic items, but it also shows you the Monte Cook’s Arcana Unearthed rules in action, including weaving spell slots and using ceremonies, oaths, mind witch powers, and detonations.

DMs need a copy of Arcana Unearthed to run this adventure. The Diamond Throne campaign sourcebook also will be helpful; most NPCs are equipped with magic items found there, and the locations are set in the lands of the Diamond Throne.
