And
From What I Hear, He Can Do Whatever a Spider Can
Sometimes,
when something is getting a lot of praise, it seems
like it's of little value to heap more on. However,
I believe that inclination is wrong, and we should
fight it. If something is truly worthy saying something
good about, there is no such thing as too much.
Which
brings me to this summer's best movie, Spider-Man
2.
This
is a wonderful movie with action, good dialogue, an
interesting (albeit comic-booky) story, good acting,
laugh-out-loud funny parts, and amazing special effects.
It's worth noting that not only has the art of CGI
improved since the first Spider-Man, but so
has the ability of the director and editors to mesh
it seamlessly with the live action. There are no transitions
between the live action scenes and the special effects
scenes -- they blur together perfectly. That's a tribute
to both the direction and the technology (and the
artistry to use the technology).
It
also shouldn't be a surprise that the story and dialogue
are good, considering that genius writer Michael Chabon
was involved, at least at some level.
I
thought the first Spider-Man movie was pretty
good, but it had its flaws. This movie, however, is
absolutely wonderful, firing on all cylinders. I can't
recommend it more highly.
